Yup. One classmate who tried to pulverise black powder in
a meat grinder. One kid hospitalized with shrapnel wounds,
a few windows blown out and the perp expelled. End of story.
Today, I think he'd be lucky not to wind up at Guantanamo.

I remember in junior high, we used to make missile out of
empy CO2 cartidges stuffed with propellant and launch them
from a friends backyard. They always took off very nicely,
but we could never figure out where they were landing.

IEDs seemed to be OK, since it was all done in the name
of science. People really seemed to believe in reefer madness
though and that probably would have brought on an uproar
equivalent to making a bomb today.
