Re: Nuclear power vs. coal

Radioactive fuel rods from two US nuclear power plants are missing. Any
of these fuel rods, a surplus weather balloon and a stick of dynamite
could turn any city into a Chernobyl-like ghost town. See ---
Elenakiddodspeed.com --- for a look at Empty Chernobyl 19 years after
the radiation release.

Radioactive nuclear power is not economically feasible. Only huge
taxpayer subsidies and policy advantages from governments make it
appear feasible. Further, it takes roughly 10 years of plant operation
to recapture the energy expenditures it takes to mine, process, shape,
and transport needed materials and ultimately build and secure a
nuclear power plant.

Take these subsidies and advantages away or equalize them with
subsidies and advantages to undepletable energy from direct solar,
wind, wave, falling water and biomass wastes and a new energy picture
emerges. It includes real competition to OPEC, and nuclear suicide.

Oil and gas get similar unfair, favorable, subsidies and treatment by
the government in such taxpayer provided goodies as depletion
allowances, tax credits for dry well drilling, financing, standard
setting, etc. etc.

These taxpayer supported advantages hold down the price of depletable
energy end products and make undepletable energy look comparatively
expensive. Take these advantages away and you will quickly find out
which energy resources are viable and have the best chances of
replacing oil before the peak oil crisis does irreparable damage.

These subsidies disadvantage undepletable energy. If the U S government
were open to suit, the imbalance and favoritism towards depletable
energy resources would surely result in an anti trust action in court.
