And it's OK they should have a material failure rate. Last about as
long as 2-3 good batteries. Eh?

I have never had a pulser coil failure on any vehicle that I have ever
owned. I did have two automobile distributor mounted ignition modules
*gradually* stop working, but I suspect the problem was environmental,
since both vehicles had
cooling system problems that released hot water vapor under the hood.

If I have it correctly, even the Hall effect sensors you<?> mentioned are now considered "old tech." Not that they didn't work, just that a lot of new designs are transconductance amplifier. If I have it correctly, typically they will just have a coil around a magnet mounted stationary with a steel/iron rotating part. That way you don't need 8 magnets or to spin the magnet(s) at 10,000 RPMs.

What happens is when rotating plate puts a hunk of itself near the pick up, it disturbs the magnetic field which produces a voltage change in the pickup coil. Transconductance => voltage to current so the loads on the magnetic pickup/coil are minimal. Older designs, be they magneto or transistorized were amps to amps to high voltage. As Forest would say, "Just one less thing to worry about."
