So my clutch is slipping these days. Is there any way to fix
this? I read
something about scraping off the glaze... can I do that to the
plates without having to replace it? I need to change the oil so
now would be a good time.

I'm guessing new plates and springs would fix the problem quite
nicely...

I noticed that the clutch is slipping a little more, and I'm
keeping the power down so as not to slip it. But I also notice
that the clutch isn't as
stiff as it used to be a little while ago. The full engagement is
right before clutch lever play. Based on that, would new springs
possibly alleviate (not fix) the problem?

Do springs go soft? Based on my previous experiences, I would say
no.

It is possible your slippage is due to an incorrectly adjusted clutch
cable or clutch release mechanism. Many bikes have separate
adjustments for cable slack and the clutch release mechanism. Make
sure your clutch isn't being constantly partially disengaged before
spending money on clutch plates.

IIRC, the CBR600f2 has a hydraulic clutch.

I'm pretty sure it's cable. There's the cable and housing that ends up at
the lever and I've adjusted the slack so that there's a decent amount.

Almost for certain unless you've been doing lots of 1/4 mile runs
your clutch springs are fine. You also may find that changing oil
to a less slippery type will help as well.

Changing the oil is certainly going to help. If I recall the mileage
correctly (49k or so?), I'd go with new plates at the same time, just
because it's straight-forward, inexpensive, and puts the bike into a
known state.

*sigh* Yeah... it would be a good idea. When the summer semester rolls
around in 2 weeks and I have time...

Springs...well if there was a good dealer in the area, I might not
order the springs, and only replace them if they checked bad
according to the manual. If I were feeling paranoid about the
previous owner, or just feeling like spending the bit of cash, I'd
just order new springs with the plates and be done with it. Once
you've decided to yank the basket, it's not much extra effort to do
the springs too.

True. I would be ordering a kit including springs/friction plates so if I
could just change out the springs it would save me a bit of money. I'm
really just trying to be aware of all my options.

It's mostly a question about how you like to work on your machines, I
guess. Kaybear/Krusty/FB and other folks might step in about wa$ting

I haven't seen Kaybear in a long time... is he/she still around?

money at a $tealer$ship on expen$ive Honda part$, while I'd put
forward the desire to know the condition of my machine, combined with
an unwillingness to be without it while waiting for parts (so,
ordering everything beforehand and not minding it if the old ones are
fine). Both considerations are valid, it really depends on
circumstances and personal preference.

As a mechanical engineering student, I'd like to get in there, but I don't
have the familiarity I have with bicycles. A bit of caution never hurt me
so that's why I'm probing the mass of collective knowledge on this NG before
I muck something up. I really appreciate all of it from all of you.
