So my clutch is slipping these days. Is there any way to fix this? I read
something about scraping off the glaze... can I do that to the
plates without having to replace it? I need to change the oil so now
would be a good time.
I'm guessing new plates and springs would fix the problem quite
nicely...
I noticed that the clutch is slipping a little more, and I'm keeping the
power down so as not to slip it. But I also notice that the clutch isn't as
stiff as it used to be a little while ago. The full engagement is right
before clutch lever play. Based on that, would new springs possibly
alleviate (not fix) the problem?
Do springs go soft? Based on my previous experiences, I would say no.
It is possible your slippage is due to an incorrectly adjusted clutch
cable or clutch release mechanism. Many bikes have separate adjustments
for cable slack and the clutch release mechanism. Make sure your clutch
isn't being constantly partially disengaged before spending money on
clutch plates.
Almost for certain unless you've been doing lots of 1/4 mile runs your
clutch springs are fine. You also may find that changing oil to a less
slippery type will help as well.
