What I want is a NG unit to set outside
withWhy not an auto transfer switch, other than money any way?
a maunal switch box. I think that'd be the cats ass..............
Auto start and transfer, it works even when you are not home!
Seriously with NG it wouldn't be much of an issue, but some guys
I work with have auto switches. They said that the little dips that
cause the power to be off for a few seconds are enough to light the
gen set off. Then if it's a while before you come home you waste a lot
of fuel. One had his gen run completely out of fuel, running while
the power was actually on and he was away.
How do ya run it outta fuel with NG? No wonder there's this global
warming ***, it's all yer cow orkers fault!
Propane
LP ain't NG.
Snarl
gas or diesel, I forget which. That's why I'd like NG. My NG
meter is about 10 feet from my meter base, it's be easy to connect
and no more looking for fuel. Snag probably didn't have an issue
finding gas in Memphis, but in my area when the power is down
you can't buy gas local either. You're looking at a 20-40 mile
drive for gen gas. Another reason to switch to NG.
Wally I figured you had LP at your place, if not you should.
At least you can keep warm when the wood stove butns down
and you can have some light without the gen. Rural and all
electric are two things that don't go together (to me).
I looked at converting a while back and decided it wasn't cost effective for us. The kero heater keeps the house comfortable and the small genny runs the lights, computer and tv. The shop is wood heat, so cooking is the only problem and since I got a propane grille that's not much of a problem anymore.
Heck I even decided against a bigger genny that would run the fridge because we don't keep all that much food at hand that we can't eat it before it goes bad.
