How do you know the diaphram is dead? Could be the filter is just
clogged.
Wasn't there a bunch of folks complaining about some kinda gas tank
sealer or other doing pretty much the same thing? I think the stuff
was called Kreme tho' I may not have the spellink right. I even
seem to recall somebody saying it was a real booger to clean out.
I'll put some gas back in tomorrow and see if she starts up. The
stock pet*** and diaphragm assembly is around 60 bucks or better.
Harley doesn't make a rebuild kit, but someone must make an after
market kit. Or if it is the diaphragm I could just plug the vacuum
hose and go with a straight pet***. Much cheaper.
I'm afraid a disintegrating liner of some sort is what it is. Don't
know what would take it out? If I do manage to take it out do I end
up with a leaky tank? Maybe I'll look for a new tank at Daytuna or
maybe not.
I just want her running for the next week and a half!
Well I did speel it wrong. It's Kreem, and a quick google search pulled up
a few threads, and assorted other internetrivia regarding the stuff.
If that's what is in your tank, it can be removed with acetone or MEK. Both
nasty. Both will destroy the outer paint.
One write up I found (then lost) had the guy use dry wall screws to slosh
around inside the tank w/ acetone to scrape it all off the inside.
I've used both Acetone and MEK. Actually my degree is in Hazardous
Materials. Both are a pain in the ass to get ride of if you don't
have a way to safely let them evaporate.
The thing is, if it is a liner, why was it put in. A good bet would
be a leak. If the leak is in an out of the way place a weld job could
be done without a repaint. Somehow I don't think I'm gonna be that
lucky.
I'll know more after a rinse, drain and a small refill to see if it
starts.
Thanks
