Which (here in Arizona) is a 4 hour class at the community college, and a 4 hour
session at the shooting range.

I did three "tours" (Navy counted it different) in SE Asia, saw combat only once
(opposed beach landing in 1972 in Quang Tri)......

Didn't stick around long enough to retire, but went into government service at
the local level when I got home.......all told did 30 years before I pulled the
plug in 2005.

Florida. I agree, that's not enuf, as it qualifies some REMo'fuckers
who did two years at Fort Dix and saw a rifle only in Basic Training
for Qualification. But some of us earned it. Civilians have to take a
qualification course as run by the NRA. And, _usually_, they don't F-
around.
Then you submit proof of both to your state gummint, along with a set
of officially-taken fingerprints and a passport photo. The State
Police and the FBI get the fingerprints to research their records, and
they tell the state if you've been bad or good. The state has 90 days
to find out if you're a scumbag or a regular citizen. At the end of
the 90 days (and they always use almost all of 'um) the law states
that they "Shall Issue" you, as Free, United States, Citizen, a little
card that says you have a RIGHT as in Inalienable Rights Granted by
the Almighty, not any group of fickle bureaucrats, to carry a firearm
for use if needed in self-defense, of yourself or another person as it
states in the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
They're the rules set down in Florida's model "Shall Issue" statute,
almost solely thanks to Ms. Marian Hammer, who pushed common sense
through the Florida legislature, years ago. The "Wild West" shoot-um-
up mentality speciously predicted by the pussies at the time never
materialized. Instead, the violent crime rate went down, if I'm not
mistaken.

Much easier here.......like I said.....ya spend 4 hours on a Friday evening in a
classroom, then ya show up the next morning at the shooting range to qualify.

Then yer app is sent off to the state police. If you meet the legal
requirements, ya get your permit. Biggest segment of the population getting
permits these days is women......

When/if I'm stopped on the highway, I show the officer my D.L., Ins.
Card, and Concealed Carry card right off. He may say, "Okay. I don't
want to see it." or words to that effect (s/he has), but s/he knows
right off I'm not a dirtbag. S/he knows, at least, that to get and
keep a Concealed Carry, you have to stay out of trouble with th' law.
Some states make the fact that the registered owner has a Carry card
part a of the report the officer gets when he/she calls in the plate
of a car s/he's about to pull over. That serves the same purpose: an
instant background check of the person-of-interest.
The other, fuckin-afraid-of-their-own citizens states, still pretend
that it's some "privilege" like is claimed of the MV driver's license,
for free citizens to carry for defense, and act that way. That's
because, like the classic Liberals, they're looking through the
telescope from the wrong end. The scumbags don't care, or obey the
laws, only their unarmed prey do.

I'm a liberal (depends on the topic though), I don't believe much in concealed
carry.....but I carry openly when I feel it's appropriate. I live in a state
where open carry is legal, and pretty much considered "normal".

What riles me is that Liberals today embody, pursue fervently, the
idea that because they know better, and so they want to control
everything. ("For our own good, of course," - like helmet laws.) They
hate that there ever may be a means to resist the imposition of their
"better ideas" upon the filthy masses (we United States Citizens). The
only thing stopping them are the beautiful checks and balances built
