Re: OT - fer the 'puter geeks

Seems the partition tables on the desktop's primary hard drive appear
corrupted. I started XP Setup with intention of exploring an Upgrade
reinstall and discovered my install disk is SP1... the OS has since been
upgraded to SP3. SP1 had a 131 MB partition limitation so the 3 hard drives
weren't seen correctly. I exited back out of Setup without making any
changes and now the 'puter won't boot..... just a blinking cursor and black
screen after POST.

Entering the Recovery Console using a boot disk or newer SP2 Setup disk
reveals the 2nd and 3rd physical hard drives appear normal, the primary hard
drive shows a primary partition all of which is available space and the
Extended Partition is gone as are the logical drives.

Seems I've either gotta find a solution to repair partition tables and the
MBR or repartition, format and start from scratch.

Fortunately, even my backups have backups on the other two hard drives.
However, reinstalling all that software is gonna be a time-consuming PITA if
I can't find a fix.

I had a friend that screwed his windows up completely. He started deleting
files and apparently deleted something he actually needed for windows to start.
I did a repair install over it and it worked perfectly afterwards. All of his
*** was still there and working. Don't know if that's something you can do or
not but hell anything is worth a try. You could also take your frigged drive and
stuff it into a working pc and see if you can fix it from there.

Disclaimer: I'm not a computer geek and have no chance of being one. I do have
five machines I built myself, all with Winders XP that work perfect and have for
years. I'm am certainly the luckiest Winders user in the world.
