I work for the city water & sewer utility but not in the department where
they dig. Those guys/girls are always finding bottles and most of them won't
part with the ones they get, although I've managed to get a few. They're
interesting to look at and some are works of art.
I guess glass in those days was like plastic and paper is to these days, you
can never find enough places to toss it. So, I guess since they didn't have
trash pickup and landfills like we do today, any open hole was a good target
place. Saw a thing on A&E where this guy would even go to old outhouse sites
to dig up bottles.
