This is a fairly inclusive breakdown of the pros and cons of it. The
whole concept just gives me the willies. We do need to reduce our
dependance on foreign fossil fuels but I'm not sure E85 is a good
solution. YMMV

Watch meat prices as more corn goes into ethonol. It's gonna go sky high,
but WTF?

ethanol is going to bite us badly in many ways. all food prices are going
to increase as farm land that has previously dedicated to food will go
toward ethanol. we will start importing more corn from mexico to meet our
needs and that will drive the price up for food in ol mexico. this will
result in more amigo's having to sneak into the good ol u.s. to make enough
money to feed their families. the cost of setting up the infrastructure for
ethanol is going to drive all fuel prices up. there are so many issues with
ethanol that i can't really believe that folks actually think it is going to
help in the long run.

with current technology i believe the best solution is more electric cars
and more nuclear power plants to make the power. the distribution network
is already in place and paid for. for city dwellers this would be super
efficient. if i lived and worked inside the perimeter of atl i would
already be electric. if 30% of the city folks traded their gas burners for
electric cars the smog problems would be tons better, the fossil fuel market
would become more competative due to less customers and we could keep making
taco shells out of the corn.
