Shortly after I quit the band I got a call from the guitar player.
Seems the keyboard player was driving the truck now and pulled over
into the weigh station on I-40, without commercial license or log
book. Would I be so kind as to go get the truck and drive it back for
them? The keyboard player would gladly follow me in my vehicle for
the return trip.
When I got there the DOT guys sez, "What was he doing on the
interstate anyway? He should have been on 51, it's shorter."
In close to 20 years that I drove 6 wheelers I went into my first
weigh station after the 18' was hit and we got the 24'. The guy at
the scales looked at me like I was wasting his time and waved me on. I
never went through another and the only time I got stopped was at a
portable in TX (I think) and that guy was just bored and felt like
chasing someone down.
