My '07 FLTR, in 9500 miles (only had her 5 weeks) is averaging 42 mpg

When I take the Mrs on the weekend I routinely have been getting
48-50mpg... got 52 one tank, but that was downhill.
Jeezz, that's a freaking huge improvement in the last few years. Is this
typical for new FLHs?
I'm gettin' around 41 most of the time. Heading west last Oct it seemed like
the faster we went the better the mileage. Got over 45 one tank.
yeah, I noticed that too. Seems if I keep the rpm's up over 3k I get
better mileage, but then that means I'm having to ride in 4th and 5th
gear on the highways and freeways around here just to stay outta jail!
