A most excellent learning experience for myself and my friend.
All suggestions were very welcome and appreciated, although I am a bit disappointed in the smart ass department, y'all need to work on that.
Everyone gets a drink regardless. I have to buy because my friend is broke. Why do you think he called me for advice?
Those who suggested removing the points plate or checking out the advance unit win! There was all kinds of fucked up *** in there. You get a free lap dance from the hot chick in the corner. If you are female, the only caveat is I get to watch.
The flyweights were worn, that is, there is a hole in the fly weight that fits on a pin. I guess these suckers rotate on this pin a bit? As rpms increase, the rotate a more due to centrifugal force? Forgive me as I am new to this stuff. Anyway these holes were egg shaped , or if you prefer a technical term, wallered out. A spring on one of the flyweights broke and caused all kinds of problems in there.
A walk through the yellow pages found a local indy shop that had Drag Specialties part number DS-242115 in stock.
$40.00 and a few beers later success!
Very cool, thanks again. I need to find a winter project now, this is too much fun.
Kinda thought that might be it, seems I was with Wally once when his old Sporty trashed the advance. Ran across a guy broke down on the side of the road a few years ago that had the broken bolt Wally mentioned. Seems to be a good place to start when they're back firing.
