I am replacing the main drive gear in my 1993 FXDWG (hope Noobs' is
holding). I want to replace the shifter pawl assembly (springs, maybe
the pawl and plate). The manual states that the pin that holds the
pawl and springs to the shifter shaft is a "press fit." Is there a
technique to supporting the shifter shaft to get the pin out and then
back in? I don't want to screw up the new parts or bend the shifter
shaft assembly taking it apart.
In my experience, it's usually a pain in the ass, and it's
real easy to bend the shaft. It's much easier, and barely more
expensive, to just replace the whole assembly.
