The wrench also showed him how dirty the intake was apparently, further
pointing to the poor filtration. The mechanic did look at the filter and
it
was oiled properly however it was not very dirty. My friend lives on a 2
mile long dirt road so there should be signs of more dirt in the filter
than there was.

Well Shirley set up the house with what ever everyone is drinking.

I have been on vacation and a co-worker brought his bike by last Tuesday
he
was having issues with his 03 Dyna low rider with 20k using oil . All my
initial checks compression and leak down pointed out either to the rings
or
valve seals. I have a fiber optic scope with magnification that I use
for
wall inspections and it works real well as a bore scope too. Well, I
looked
inside the cylinders and they were pretty bad as if someone used 220 grit
to
scratch them up. There was no way around it will need a teardown for
further inspection.

He took it to a local wrench who is HD certified with a complete machine
shop, the dealer could not get at it for 3 weeks and recommended this
guy.
I got a call today and he got the news Friday that the jugs will need to
be
replaced along with rings. He said that the inside cylinder walls were

That's interesting? Been selling the not gonna name 'em filters and
servicing
them for a long time and have absolutely not ever seen the phenomenon you
speak
of. Especially the dirty inlet tract. My experience would be just the
opposite
actually.

I ran those unnamed filters on all my 2 stroke dirt bikes and had zero
problems. Running Enduros and serious trail riding (follow the fool type
thing) through the sandy soil down here in Florida would seem to be a fairly
good test but that is only my opinion. I've read that these filters work so
well because they have a more "open" filter element. I'd believe that
completely. The flip side is a properly oiled filter ( I used their spray on
oil) sure seemed to work. The only thing that always made me a bit curious
was the manufacturer's claim that they actually worked better when they were
dirty.
