Ride and a Question

[chair scrapes from the table in back]

I wonder if I could interest anybody in drink before noon? Makers Mark for
me, Shirley whatever anybody else would like if they'll join me.

Last week was the first decent ride of the season. I live in Alamosa, CO
(7500 feet elevation) and had a business conference in Durango (160+/- miles
each way). I got a surprisingly large amount of stuff into my Bikers Friend
luggage (no affiliation, yada yada), and it looked a lot better on the bike
than saddlebags. Form meets function for a change. Anyway, I left Alamosa at
about 8:30am, maybe 45 degrees. I had the luggage loaded, a garment bag with
suits in it, and a spare jacket bungeed on top. By the time I got stopped at
the construction on Wolf Creek Pass (11,500 elevation), it was clouding up.
The flagger-gal told me it was snowing on top of the Pass. uh-oh. And
traffic was getting ready to release, so no time to put on the rain suit
without having to wait another hour. Up top I hit a driving rain and that
sideways sleet/snow/slush mix, but nothing was sticking, so it wasn't too
bad. On into Pagosa Springs, where the sun was shining. Right outside of
Pagosa the skies opened up. The hardest, coldest downpour imaginable. Same
problem - it happened so fast, there was no time to rain suit-up, just time
to get soaked. My buddy in a pickup behind me later said he had his wipers
going full speed, and still couldn't keep up with the rain. It tapered off a
bit by Bayfield, so I just plugged along into Durango. Buddy thinks I'm
nuts, but "if I had to explain it, he wouldn't understand." In Durango I
hooked up with a couple of buddies on Gold Wings for a 70 mile cruise around
the red cliffs and a couple of beautiful reservoirs (sp?). On Friday I rode
back into Alamosa. The Pass was clear but cold, and I was just in the zone
through the curves. All in all a great trip, and a good warm up for next
month's trip thru New Mexico to El Paso.

Now the question: After the trip, while cleaning up the bike, I noticed an
oil stain around the spark plug on the front cylinder. The plug is torqued
to specs, the bike runs great and no evidence of using/burning oil. The
stain is exactly around the plug, not dripping or splashing from anywhere
else. The 2 year warranty is done in August, so I'll be getting to a
dealership before then. But until ... anybody have a clue why the oil? BTW,
I had the opportunity to stop by a dealership in Pueblo yesterday, so I
asked. The service manager just scratched his head. He suggested "seepage."
WTH - seepage from *where*. No answer to that. Nope, I didn't put anything
on the plug threads when I last installed, and he said there's no
lube/grease in the plug boot that might have melted. The only suggestion was
to replace the plugs, clean the area, and "monitor" it (!?)

Anybody for another?
