I loaned my 86 XL600R to a buddy home from overseas to use for 3
months. It has gone from S. Tex and is now in Virginia heading for
Jersey via the cape may ferry. It has gotten a fair bit of attention
as it is kinda old and not a first choice for long distance travel.
Mileage has been in the high 50's with a high of 70 doing low speeds
through Louisiana. I am pleased it is holding together fine and
running great.
I'm sorta in between VA and NJ, and have a small stash of XL parts in
the garage. Keep that in mind if he runs into any issues during that
leg of the trip.
The XL is a much better mile-eater than many might think, IMO.

Thanks for the offer. The bike is running good and has not had any
problems. He just had to adjust the chain a bit and add a small
amount of oil after the 1st 1500 miles of the trip. The 15:40
sprockets, 4.3 gallon clarke transparent tank, along with spitfire
windshield, hard trunk and strap on tank bag worked out good so far.
The Kenda 270 rear is going to be done soon enough but its a $45
tire ;)
