after dusting them leave them a few days to make sure they "distribute" the
dust to the rest of the colony, if you plug them before they die or miss a
few they will just tunnel out a new hole...

bendiocarb (Ficam) or boric acid (Perma-Dust) are the two that i'm familiar
with. i think the boric acid is cheaper ~8-10 buck a spray can

The bees you typically encounter near the
nest site are males and, though seemingly aggressive, they rarely
sting. The females will sting without provocation, but they're usually
busy inside the nest working or having babies.

The ones just hanging around are really docile. I've wacked them
with my bare hand. Never seen a female I guess as I haven't
been stung yet.


They'll die within 24 hours usually. Then you might wanna caulk and
repaint the pole barn as a deterrent to future infestation.

Caulk? You mean seal the place up? This is a barn, there's 6" space
under the doors for instance.
