Aluminum frames are a
marketing gimic with significant engineering draw-backs.
Other than the twin-spar design making getting to the carb all but
impossible, I don't see any drawbacks, and they are WAY prettier than
the medival steel ones. Tendancy to crack is a myth, unless maybe
you've changed your riding style to that of Seth E. ASMOF, just this
weekend, I was flying in a plane that was completely made out of
Aluminum, which was used daily for at least 30 years - didn't fall out
of the sky.
