Also, as I've mentioned before, I used a Dremel to carefully radius
the combustion chamber on the head of my 490 motor. No template, no
guidelines, no previous experience... I just removed material in what
I figured was a safe manner (the basic idea is to lower the
compression ratio), cleaned it up and reinstalled the thing. Without
any rejetting the improvement was noticeable and the pinging almost
non-existent afterwards.
I have been told that this problem was fixed by '94. It may not be as much
an issue at higher altitudes. I'll run it with hi-octane & see how it works
before I do anything to the head.
