My suggestion is use a 28 oz rig builders hatchet.
.One blow with the hammer to set the nail & one blow to drive it to
the head. An old man I used to work with, who was a former wooden
derrick builder taught how to do that.

I don't think I've seen a gun that can shoot 30d nails.**********************************************************
Ring shanks huh? Man, the normal sizes of those love to bend due to all
those rings providing multiple weak points. I'd suspect that wasn't too much
of a problem at 30d.
I guess even my 20 oz framing hammer would feel a little like a pea shooter
on 30d nails.
Screw that Estwing stuff with the steel handle. I go fiberglass handle to
preserve my wrist and elbow.
I go FS20L

Nice hammer, Dean.
My rig builders hatchet has a "checkerboard etched" hammer face, and
seems to get excellent traction on a nail head. (and once, on my left
index finger,( where it cut the nail in two and turned it inside out
at the end half. oops!) when I was driving a 20# nail through
corrugated tin into green oak lumber. (I was building a school bus
stop shed for the kids a long time ago.)
It isn't an Estwing, but is older than I am, and has a wooden handle.
I use a normal 16 oz framing hammer for light duty work. (Wooden
handle also.)
