Yes I have. Picadors are the horsemen that jab the bull with a
lance. Often two lances. In the bull's neck muscles. If they're
successful (which admittedly they usually are) they do this before the
bull injures them or the horse.
What you are referring to is the Mexican version of bullfighting where the
picador is on horseback. The Spanish version does not use a horse-mounted
picador. The matador alone is charged with the demise of the bull and takes
to the role of picador after he has already worked the bull with the cape
for a time.
I grew up around
roosters and hens and, contrary to Rick's claim, can vouche for many
rosters being predisposed to 'spurring.' Now granted, they don't have
razors secured to their claws in their natural environment, but they
do indeed fight for dominance.
I didn't say it wasn't natural for roosters to fight. Like any other
creature that exerts dominance either for territory or mating ritual, there
is some fighting involved. What isn't natural is for them to fight to the
death. In nature, once a rooster has asserted his dominance the submissive
rooster usually retreats and the fight is over. In a cockfight, the roosters
are whipped into such a frenzy that they fight more furiously than in
nature, and the same spurring inflicts greater injury with the false talons.
The playing of the race card in this instance was ridiculous and
unwarranted.
In any case, it's just disgusting to me when people like Vick (and
his supporters) feel they're above the law when they get caught, and
then cry racism at the first opportunity. As if caucasion folks aren't
routinely charged with idiotic crimes also (see: Tim Donaghy). When
did we become this society that believes it doesn't matter if it's
illegal, so long as we disagree with the law? It doesn't matter if
you're here *illegally*, so long as you're a respectable person just
trying to provide for your family. The problem I have is, how
'respectable' a person are you if you're *breaking the law* just being
here? That calls into question every other bit of credibilty you may
have.
Now if these people were lobbying to get the laws *changed*, I'd
have a lot more respect for them (even though I might not agree). But
instead, they just choose to ignore the law outright, as if it doesn't
apply to them because they don't agree with it. Then they try to
convince others to likewise rebel. What follows is often anarchy.
I completely agree.
