Back from overseas

Well, I just got back from my tour of Italy and Spain and all I can say is
it's great to live in the U.S. of fucking A! Spent most of my time in
southern Italy and if you think we have good MX riders here you should see
what everyday people do while riding their scooters in the cities and
suburbs of Italy. Even little old ladies aren't afraid to mix it up with a
tour bus on a one-way road. The dollar is down against the Euro, so things
were very expensive. Not to mention the country is full of bandits. They are
called airport workers, taxi drivers, bus drivers and just plain old
citizens. Caught pickpockets in the act twice, once on the bus and once on
the Metro in Rome. Young kids, not criminal types. Unemployment is around
24% so lots of beggars and thieves. Loved seeing the history, but the
country is a crumbling ghetto for the most part. Graffitti everywhere and
buildings on top of buildings with little in the way of construction codes
or enforcement. I don't know, but seeing laundry hanging out on every
balcony makes any community look like a tenement. Infrastructure is a joke,
as well. For a country that depends so much on tourism they sure don't do
much to encourage repeat visiting. At least the train system makes getting
around pretty easy, once you figure out how to decipher (or find) the
destination/schedule signs. Busses are plentiful, too, but very confusing.
Glad to be back and looking to get some riding in. Been off the bike since
my shoulder surgery on 5/4. Anyone near SoCal wanna go for a ride? :)
