Kimball NE enduro race report

I don't post them on here much but always send a race report to my racing
buddies that didn't make the race so some of the comments may not make
sense. This was my first race on my YZ250 (2 smoke) and only my 2nd time
riding it off road. Pretty happy with it. --------

Well I'm home all in one piece, me and the bike

Got lucky and ended up on minute 10, I just like that position. The race
conisisted of 1 loop about 19 miles long. It had 2 test on it. The first
test was 4 or so miles long and the A/B split off at the end for a small
section. They were worried about a down hill and having C's on it. It
really wasn't bad IMHO. The 2nd test was 10+ miles long. The C's and A/B's
split right at the start. The A/B split was some technical stuff but fun.
Everyone did 2 loops and the A/B's went back out and ran the same 1st test,
and the C second test.

Loops 1 and 2 went pretty well. No major issues. The 250 seemed to be
working pretty good. There are lots of rocks in the bottom of these Canyons
and the suspension was a little harsh on that. In the sand washes and
ledges we were jumping off it was pretty nice. Power was pretty good. Don't
even have much to report on the first 2 loops. They were fun but I was
starting to feel it at the end of them.

Went back out for the 3rd loop and the first test went well. Start the
2nd test in the C section and next thing I know I'm going backwards on the
A/B stuff I had done earlier. I figured that was in the plan and road it all
the way back to the start of the test, dohhhhh. There were some hills that
were tough as *** going backwards on, and I had to get off and push and
drag a couple of places. I was wiped out when I pulled up to the check
crew. I asked how to get back to camp and they directed me over the top of
the hills. I got to the top and found the course with Greg Gibson from
minute 23. I hopped on there and tried to ride but I was so fried it was a
pathetic attempt. I did stay ahead of Gibson. Figure that cost me an extra
17 or so and killed my day.

I wasn't to upset with it. A couple of other guys, Dave Smoljan, did the
same thing and he was pissed as hell filing protest and bitching to high
heaven. I signed my card and figured enough guys found it I was screwed.

Only 2 guys passed me, until the last test, Schmelze and Fredrick, the
top 2 riders from last year and they were on minute 11 and 12 so I felt like
I was having a pretty good day.

Now for the others. Dan flated at the start of the 3rd loop and DNF'd,
Ray from TT had a really bad day. he got off course and tried to cut back
on. Crashed over a ledge, bike fell on him, he tried to block with his hand
and got his finger in the rear sprocket cutting it to the bone. The took
him to the ER so I'm not sure what the outcome will be, sounds a little
Churchill to me.

Over all really like the 250, think I may have the suspension done.
