According to the parts book (available online athttp://www.gasgasmotos.es/rcs/enduro/ec_2007/despiece2007.zip),
it has a rather conventional oil seal outside the crank bearing,
which seals against the bushing, which rides on the crankshaft. (The
bushing takes the wear of the sealing surface, instead of the
crankshaft itself.) The seal is double lipped, and of a more durable
material than those oil seals which come from your average bearing
supplier.
(Look at engine fiche #12, on pdf page #28 )
You should be able to pull out the seal with a pick, and just press
the new seal into place (using a socket and a hammer).
I don't understand how that system could even work. The bushing can
move on the crankshaft (I verified that the shaft can be rotated or
slid in/out slightly w/o the bushing moving), which seems to
completely defeat the purpose of BOTH the bushing AND the oil seal. I
don't get it.
Thanks for the manual references, but I have them and according to
what I see, I can't do the job without tearing down the motor. A
previous owner (two owners ago) claims to have replaced both crank
seals from the outside, however, everyone I have talked to that has
owned this bike has lied furiously about it, so I don't believe
anything anymore.
On engine fiche #8, the 125cc 'Crankcase' page, you can clearly see
the flange that obstructs the bearing/seal (or whatever is against
there) on case part #4. Also, from that page, it looks like the dry
side can be changed from the outside (case part #1), but it appears
that the wet side requires splitting the cases due to the flange.
crank bearing or an oil seal, and whichever is in there requiresFrom what I can see by the pictures, there is a spot for either the
splitting the cases to remove. There does not appear to be room for
both.
