No offense to the guys who love the euro-bikes, for whatever reason.
I don't understand the allure of the GasGas brand, I really don't, but
I'd like some inputs from folks who are experienced with them.

So, what do you think? Should I fix this POS? Should I go even more
into the hole, just to find out if there is anything to this GasGas
myth, or give up on it and cut my losses, then buy a jap 125 and live
happily ever after? I'm worried that I'll fix it, then something else
will go, then something else...it's already reminding me of my kid's
old KTM50. That bike was 2 hours wrenching for every hour riding. So
far, my GasGas has 25-30 wrenching hours and 1/2 hour riding, and
needs a whole lot more wrenching - pretty dismal ratio so far, and I'm
really sick of working on it.

I agree with Charles. If you are tired of working on it you
probably aren't going to ever enjoy it. I do think that 1/2 hour of
saddle time with a blown main seal is not a very generous evaluation
of the handling/performance aspects, but that's just me and I
understand your financial concerns on what it'll take to get more than
that 1/2 hour of ride time now.

I'm also not a fan of 125cc 2-stroke MX bikes for adults riding
trails and woods. Expecting a GG 125 MXer to be a KTM 200/300 XC or
even a WR250F in the woods, or a YZ-250 on the MX track, seems sorta
silly to me and I don't think that's the forte of GasGas.

That said, I've only ever ridden one GasGas dirt bike. It was
courtesy of Mr. Cook and was a 250cc 2-stroke enduro model.
Surprisingly, it was a lot like my old RM but smoother, thinner and
more refined (as a 20-year newer bike should be). It was a joy to
ride, with plenty of speed, torque and fine handling. But I probably
had the same 1/2 hour of total seat time that you've had on the 125.

I'm telling you, if you want a light bike (like a 125) with superb
handling and awesome versatility sell the GG MXer and look for a good
used KTM 200 XC. You'll probably pay more than you would for the
clapped-out 125 MXer (and aren't they all), but I bet you'd be majorly
more satisfied. "Flickable" is the word that immediately comes to mind
when I recall riding DJs 200 in Idaho. Very nimble, very predictable,
very confidence-inducing. But to be fair, I didn't get anywhere near
an MX track with it.

My humble opinions, and not necessarily valid for everyone. Good
luck with whatever you decide to do, Jay!
