Yep. Remember when nobody's pumps even had a digit in the dollar spot as
nobody ever expected gas to go over a dollar a gallon? So, they had to set
the pump at half price and then double the total when you were done pumping.
Let's call that 1977.
What else has tripled in price over the last 30 years? Or, <gulp> quadrupled
as the OP suggests could happen? I don't know.

A 1976 4x4 pickup around $7 to $10K they are easy 4x that now...

My income from 1985 to now went up roughly 4x... leaving me with no
net gain... or even a slight net loss... that kind a sucks. :)
