EXCELLENT! This scoot is probably as good as new now and will severely

Thanks Volker, that's the hope. I also hope the jetting and power
delivery characteristics don't change too much though. I'm not really
concerned about making the bike faster, it was plenty fast before, but
if it develops better low end retains the crisp throttle response it's
always had I'll be happy. Mostly this was a "preventative" mantenance
measure.

Good job! I've just been through the
procedure with a 2000 CR125 (minus the bore/hone-job) now. The piston
was really burnt down and there was quite some heavy drooling at where
the pipe meets the exhaust flange. Some seals were shot.

That's probably pretty common on used 125 two-strokes. Most are
worked hard, and a lot of owners aren't real interested in mantenance
and wrenching.

I dropped in a Honda OEM piston (A.R.T.) and new ring/gasket which were
still in the kit, cleaned the powervalves because they were full with
carbonized residues (funny: the big hunks were getting smaller and
smaller while I scrubbed the coal off), checked the reeds (carbon fibre,
still OK) and gave the carb some good cleaning, too. Since there was no
excessive freeplay at the crank, I put everything together and the beast
started 1st kick and pulled strong. Nice! Riding buddy Konstantin was
delighted (the CR is his bike).

Awesome, great job. My bike is pre-power-valve, so I don't have one
of those to worry about cleaning.

Jeeeze! This is a castle! I'm just getting green with envy. My "work
space" (that doesn't deserve this name) is just the garage floor.
Unfortunately, I have to haul all my tools incl. the BFEM and stuff
around everytime which considerably adds to the setup time, not to speak
of the zero-possibility to stop wrenching for a day when having to wait
for parts and leave intestines laying around or my parents will -
without doubt - kill me.

Hehehe, been there done that ;-> I tore down my YZ-490 in our
apartment kitchen years ago, much to the anger of my wife. And at one
point, early in our relationship, we lived with my folks and I
overhauled the Toyota motor in my car using their (dirt floored)
garage, which also didn't go over extrememly well since the process
took longer than anticipated.

Hey, cool! Tell me how you bike behaved! What's the burn-in drill for
it? Honda keeps saying 15 min of 25%, cool down, 15 min of 50%, cool
down, done. Ready to race. Yamaha more or less says the same with its
YZF range. However, I'm still in the 25%-cool-down- phase. Since 5 years
or so... ;-)

Will do, Volker. Not sure on the break-in procedure, I haven't
checked the manual on that yet. I imagine that the suggestion will
include a more generous oil ratio in the premix and, as you say,
taking it easy with cool down periods inbetween.
