Could be a couple things, if you got unlucky and the return spring broke, it
is in the trans side... does it return from upshifts?
I suppose dlevey could be right. but would be somewhat easy fix and or even
investigation to check the spring, it is behind the clutch on the "wet
side"... want to have a gasket before you open it up, but you could get by
on the cheap with decent heat RTV...
changing that spring won be bad for mechanically prepared, but not for
newbies to tools... IMHO

I have found YZ 250 transmissions to be a bit fragile. Sounds to me
like you got some gear chunks floating around.
Drain the transmission oil. You might see flakes and chunks.

Hey Guys, I noticed last night while riding that my shifter is now
sticking when shifting gears.. especially when i have my clutch
pulled in, and I am trying to downshift, the foot shifter will not
come back up in position so I will have to force it back up in order
to downshift.. does anyone know what this might be about or what I
should do..?
Also, what would be the best tranny oil to use in this bike.. I
mostly ride desert.. Thanks.
