Jeff has ATKadosis;
You positive it doesn't have a bottom end leak, like main seals?
'Cause the way you describe it running sure sounds like that.
I've considered that. I'm going to carefully measure the oil when I
change it. I always put in exactly 800cc. It would have to be
down by at least 100cc to explain the behaviour.
The other telling factor is the really crappy gas mileage & mega
spooge coming out of the exhaust.
I tore the carb apart tonight & can't see anything unusual. The
needle is anodized aluminum & shows no sign of wear. The
seat is brass, and doesn't have obvious wear.
I'm also going to pull the reed cage & make sure that nothing
is going on with the petals. I've never had one go bad, so I'm
unsure of the exact symptoms. The bike screams when the
bottom end is cleaned out. Prolonged running at low throttle
settings loads things up.
Whatever the cause, I better sort it out before any long rides
this summer.

We don't stop riding because we get old, we get old because we stop riding.
Is it possible (feasible) the needle seat has loosened and is allowing
gas to come up around it?
Do these 2 stroke thingies have an emulsion tube on the main jet?
