Re: $250 REWARD for a doctor with a clue

Word on the street is they usually take 1/3 if working on contingency.

Yep, that's the deal I'd guess.

I'm having trouble thinking that your latest doc is not doing
what he can to help. Is it his fault that it's not healing? Is it
anybodies? It's a bad-ass infection and people die from it.
I would hate for you to but is it the doc's fault? He sounds like
maybe he is trying to make it easier for you (removing the PICC)
but based on how YOU thought it looked a couple weeks ago,
maybe he was right.

The latest thing is just the latest thing. It has been a comedy of errors. He is in the same practice as the other really bad doctor, so they can do the water cooler thing.
Yes, two weeks ago after a nasty case of necrotizing fasciitis, he went from having me on one of the strongest antibiotics known to no antibiotics at all. At the same time, he views the wound and decided "I don't need to see this every week" and schedules me two weeks out. He is the doctor, he looked at it, my opinion isn't really the issue because I foolishly trust his word and trained eye. I'm sure the holidays had nothing to do with it. I actually expressed concern to many people, including my nurses that he was waiting two weeks to see me right after 1) he just stopped all of my antibiotics. and 2) the wound was at a critical stage where it can tend to fill in from the side and trap abscess instead of from the bottom as it should.
Then I see him and he's wondering about my meds instead of knowing about my meds, and saying that it's not benign enough to wait two weeks between appointments, allowing that I might need more surgery now. I wanted to beat him to death with my crutches. Luckily, I'm a peaceful man.
Am I supposed to let that guy take another stab at the problem?

No way. Demand a referral to Yale if one is required. If he won't do it, check out Yale anyway. I got an appointment with the USC med school guys for my husband just by saying that I no longer trusted the local guys.

Will getting money from his insurance make you feel better
or heal your leg?

Nope.
But I should have been back at work at least a month ago, haven't worked since Sept. Lost income.
Pain? I'll repost the photo of the hole in my foot if you like. You tell me if it looks like it hurts.

The only thing a lawsuit can get for you is money -- there must be some sort of quantifiable loss, and loss of income definitely counts. The docs' malpractice insurance will pay, and then they'll jack up the docs' rates. Always a good thing, especially for a doc you'll never see again. Pain and suffering and punitive damages, if possible.

Today's photo (optional) will look much better, but still, you tell me if it looks like it hurts.
Suffering? More than most can imagine. And if the domino effect counts, holy crap this has been a disaster.

It's the second doctor who really screwed up and needs a spanking. With him, it's a real issue of letting him get away with it. Even my nurses say the guy has a high infection rate. Perhaps I just go straight to their sanctioning body to report the guy, but c'mon, it's almost like civic duty to expose bad doctors.

It IS a civic duty. When did retribution get such a bad name, anyway?

This guy I liked and trusted up until yesterday. Mom was right, I should've been a doctor. These guys aren't that smart.

A friend's kid got her degree in Biology from Caltech and went on to become an ER doc via the UCSD med school. She says the worst thing about becomeing a doctor was that you didn't have to do any thinking, just memorizing. I can easily believe it.

That doesn't explain the guy at my high school reunion, though. Class jock, dumb as a post, had to be helped through Spanish class (the teacher was so laid back that nobody flunked the class). He was a thoracic surgeon. I find that terrifying.

I guess what I'm trying to get to is that you seem pretty smart,
at least compared to a lawyer (how's that for a slam?). Why
would you get one involved that will tell you what NOT to do
and what you should do when it's your freakin leg? Call the
association of flesheating bacteria haters and your local
teaching hospital. Go over the docs head, not below his
ankles. Spend your time fighting, not trying to get retribution.

Yeah, I have found some real comfort (mostly lurking) at a NF support group.
I see the Infectious Disease dept. tomorrow at the hospital for my scheduled follow up there.
Prediction: they will change the oral antibiotic that Dr. 3 gave me yesterday before any tests even come in.
LOL. I can't believe I'm laughing at this shit.

"Laughter is the best medicine." It may even be true. It certainly can't hurt.

My dad said
"Get well. Then, get even."

Always listen to your parents. They're right more often than not. Sometimes.

If you really want to, go for retribution when you can ride
again. Keep those liberal homo lawyers in business.

I am completely burned out on lawyers. They have done me no favors in the past, but they weren't working contingency either. I have lost a chunk of my life here. This sucks. It's not the Steve Martin arrow-through-the-head routine over here. Retribution is a good word.

I'll keep documenting and let the weasels tell me what they think it's worth. <begin dream sequence, fuzzy fade and harp music> Maybe I'll spend it on acreage so we can ride.

Opinions expressed here are worth exactly what you
paid for them.

You'll be hearing from my attorneys.
