Actually, those aren't slobs. They just want snapshots of family members in front of <something>. I've got a lot of pix like that of me when I was tiny. In the to-be-scanned pile.
A friend took Ansel Adams' course at Yosemite. I've seen some of his pictures. He went in for abstract stuff. Why did he bother?
Ansel also did a LOT of work in the darkroom, heavy on the hands-on environment, and the moon picture is just one example of that. Why bother is control, under the red lights. Repetition and control.
He did better-than-reality stuff. The friend did different-from reality stuff. And astronomical pictures...
Darkroom work is a lot easier if you have enough space, air conditioning, and a second bathroom :-(
