Is it just me. Or does this scream "Pilot/Idle Jet
fuel starvation"? It runs with the enrichner for an
extended time. So it is not the tank vent preventing
fuel from getting to the carb. It does not sound like
float height unless the enrichner sux from the bottom
of the bowl and the pilot from higher up.
I have a hard time understanding how faulty Reeds
could make the motor die with a reduced fuel flow.
Rockett, You have check the fuel/air screw and turned
it out the recomended 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 turns? Set the Idle
screw? etc?
Your problem bugs me because I too had a carb/fuel/air
problem a couple years ago on my XL350R. I took those damn
carbs out 12 times before I discovered the "lost Goober" that
was clogging an air passage to the emulsifier jet. I'd have
bet a bunch of $$$ I had cleaned EVERY passage 11 times already.
During those 4 months of frustration I replaced: CDI, Coil, Primary
pick up sensor, plugs, jets, air filter. Cleaned the exhaust, set
the valves 1/2 dozen times. Checked the timing over and over. Went
through and cleaned every connector and switch on the entire bike.
And to find the "Gremlin Goober" in the carburetor after all that
work was a lesson learned the hard way.
Hang in there and don't give up.
If you can think of any other symptoms the bike is showing let
us know. It might provide the one clue to solve the mystery.
