I'm trying to find out what the difference is in batteries. I need to
replace the one I have, 7.2 Ni-Cd 1500mAH with a new one. I see there
are all kinds of different batteries, what are the differences and
advantages between these, like Ni-Cd vs NiMH and various ranges up to
3300mAH batteries? I have a HPI RS4 electric car, upgraded motor and
electronic speed controller. Thanks, any input is greatly appreciated..
For starters what do you have as a charger? If you have a timer based charger the NiMH is out of the question. They are very sensitive to overcharging. If you have a PEAK charger then you need to figure out if it can charge Ni-Cd or NIMH or maybe even both.
As for the batteries!! The more amperage(mAH) you have, the longer run time you will get and even get more punch off the start. Now if you are just playing around with the car then you do not need those high priced Matched packs that can cost a fortune. There are many company names out there selling average battery packs but most of them come from the same place so don't go crazy trying to figure out who makes the best one.
If you are racing then you may want to look into getting a good peak charger and matched packs with the highest voltage rating you can find but be forwarned, they are not cheap.
Did I miss anything?
