Re: Foam wing cutting

Bob,
If you don't mind, I'd like to offer my .02 worth on this issue.
Granted, VHS is still very much alive, but it is rapidly being replaced by
DVD for a number of reasons. First is permanence; tapes stretch and degrade
very quickly whereas the lifespan of a quality DVD is not yet know, but will
usually exceed 10 years. Secondly, blank recordable DVD's are now cheaper
than tapes. In fact, you can quite often catch them on sale at Office Max,
Office Depot, Best Buy, etc., with a mail in rebate for the purchase amount,
thus making the cost only that of the initial purchase tax and the amount of
postage for the mail in rebate. Third, and one of the most important
reasons is that most computers will play DVD's, which will allow you to
watch said video on your computer as well as your TV. If your computer is
equipped with a DVD recorder, all you need to do is have the video converted
from VHS to DVD. If the conversion process is what is stopping you from
offering your product on DVD, I will gladly convert it for you, free of
charge. All you need to do is mail me a tape, and I will convert the video
to DVD and mail back the DVD to you. Contact me offlist if you would like
to make arrangements.

I don't have any problem with the guy having a product related to R/C
listed
for sale on here. Who knows, one of your buddies may be looking for just
what he is offering. He is, however, missing the boat by not doing DVD's.
They are CHEAPER for him to produce, mail, etc. HE CAN MAKE MORE PROFIT!
For him to protest that idea shows he is not a very good business man!

I do not consider his post as spam. ?I have a VCR( about 6 actually,
you
can have one if you want).
Posts of intrest to the hobby are what this group is for. ?I just bid
on
an eBay item listed here. ?I do think that some of the posts in the
thread are useless. Maybe even mine. Unless I unload a VRC. :)

mk

Coming here to let people know about your personal item you have listed
on ebay (Enya 4C somebody had sitting in his shop for years) is not
spam.
That person is not running a commercial enterprise.

The poster posting to tell us to go to his businesses website to buy the
video about cutting foam wings is spam. He is passing it off as a
business, he pays google to place ads for him in related google
searches.
So his post is considered an unsolicited commercial advertisement.
Another word for that is SPAM. ?You click on his link, find out it's
only
available on VHS and he whines when you tell him it's useless to you.

Sir,

And who died and appointed you the moderator of an unmoderated group?
Yep, Nike shoes ads here, I think I would consider off topic but his

Please it is okay. I understand Vance's initial point about his
perception that my posting was spam... and agree that it would have
been clearer if I had said up front that the reason my son created the
website was to help sell our video on cutting foam. I also
understand that some folks have to have the newest and best of
everything and I am happy that they have been graced with the
blessings that let them do that. So when something newer comes out in
a year or so they can buy that too. I also understand that the video
fills a need for folks who like to build models from scratch. I will
eventually get it moved over to dvd format but till then it is
available on VHS tape... (chuckling... just be glad that I didn't fall
in love with Beta format for tapes because they really were the
superior technology at the time, kinda like blueray now...) I know
some folks do not believe that anyone still builds (or owns a VHS tape
machine) but since 2001 we've sold several hundred copies of the video
mostly word of mouth... the website was just to help people find us.
Bob

PS I was at Target today... about half of their DVD machines also
take VHS tapes... so the technology isn't dead. Now, if I only
offered it in 16mm sound film then I really might deserve to be
scolded... and please forgive me if you have a 16mm projector in the
garage.
