Use female Deans Ultra connector, they are keyed sot they can't be reversed.
Polarity marked on the pins.

Hi
I am about to solder leads to a Li-Poly battery pack. However, before
picking up my soldering iron, what is the accepted convention for
soldering connections to an E-flight battery pack?
Obviously there are 3 possibilities - all with snags:-
1) 2 male connectors - could obviously easily short out (and not
polarized).
2) Male and female - they are polarized so cannot be plugged in
wrongly, but still a slight chance of shorting out.
3) 2 female - seems the safest for shorting out, but a chance of
plugging into the ESC incorrectly.
Incorrect input polarity will trash most escs instantly.
If you decide to mix male and female on batt and esc connectors to avoid
this, then it is possible to have the battery negative lead longer (or
shorter) than the positive lead, with the convention reversed on the esc
so the leads end up the same length. This will help avoid the very ends
of the connectors touching. Of course you will heat shrink the connectors
themselves won't you ?
In respect of whether to use male on negative or positive line then I have
heard it suggested that the right way round is with the male on the
battery charger having negative polarity. This is so that on a negative
earth car (most modern cars) if you charge from the car then dropping the
lead onto the bare metal under the bonnet won't cause a short. Of course
most chargers are short circuit protected but it may still be a good idea
to follow this convention.
