Speaking only for myself, I tend to shunt very slowly and deliberately.
Having done it for real for so long, I don't know any other way to do
it! ;-)
That probably makes for a very long and satisfying operating session.

Personally I think shunting (slow or otherwise) is a waste of time, but
many people enjoy it. That's ok with me.

Yes, that's one feature I can't see any point in having. As you say,
it's very unrealistic for anyone not modelling very modern railways.
One of the best parts of this hobby is the fact that we can run our
layouts any way we see fit, and as long as we don't say that "our" way
is the only "right" way to do things, everybody stays happy.
My favorite part of this hobby is construction, scenicking and wiring.
I prefer mainline running and try to stay away from complex switching
puzzles. I'm quite content just running a passenger train. I'm lucky
enough to live in an area with several well done layouts which I have a
privledge to operate (and help to maintain and update).
I'm surprised that you've replied to my post. I thought you had me
