Would it be possible, or good idea, to adapt the system from RC cars to run HO scale rail ? My idea is to avoid the track current and its associated problems. The cars are cheap and battery technology is getting better all the time. You could run different trains at different speeds and directions by using different control frequencies in undertrack antenna wires. Just a stupid idea, or ?

There are no stupid ideas. It would certainly solve the problem of dirty track.
I have been thinking about doing that with several passenger trains and through
freights where I would not uncouple a group of cars from the engine....(Eastern Pennsy)

Someone a long time ago was thinking of something similar. I have a wooden car
with flashlight parts inside to handle D size Eveready's. There was also a 6 volt
motor. 4 batteries? Must have required frequent replacement..... Would be great
with 1.5 V leds and rechargeable batteries, though.

Jim Stewart.

I agree, and so does George Schreyer, whose site I visited after posting this.

I will buy a cheap RC car and use the electronics to cobble up the system, hopefully using NiMH batteries. If it does not work well, at least I will not be out too much money.
