I know you guys won't want to miss an opportunity to train with Chen
XiaoWang. The Sunday workshop may be of special interest as it will
cover selected sections of the LaoJia YiLu form from the perspective
of applications. In workshops, CXW never seems to have a problem with
people posing the "but what do you do if someone tries to ...?" types
of questions which are usually answered with an invitation to try the
attack followed by being thrown of put in a lot of pain. It's not the
same as free sparring, but still gives an impressive example that
dispels most of the criticisms that people have about the effective
fighting skills of tai chi.

Also, there should be no confusion about mystical "chi" powers. Tai
Chi should more correctly be written as TaiJi in Pinyin and the
energy, Chi, should be written as "Qi" in Pinyin. So the name of the
martial art does not include the name of the msytical energy as many
people seem to think. The Chen family doesn't talk about throwing
"Chi" balls or using magic and is more likley to talk about the "gong
fu" or hard work and time that is spent to cultivate high levels of
skill.

You may find this article interesting - talks about some of the
challenges faced by the Chen family, including CXW:

Also, here is some video of CXW's nephew, Chen Bing, demonstrating
throws against a grappler at an MMA school:

Get him Mahoney.

I would pay to see that.

Bing's throws in the clip were nice, but who was his 'opponent'?

GDS

"Let's roll!"
