Or rather, his producers did... the speech itself is more of the same
rhetoric, only with a bit more flash and glitz. Never mind that 90%
of what he claims "he" is going to do as president is either
logistically impossible or beyond the powers of the presidency.

---But not if the Dems control the house and Senate as well...

Sorry, but no matter how many dems you have in the house and senate,
you aren't going to eliminate all oil imports within ten years. You
aren't going to power the USA by solar and wind in that amount of
time. No amount
of democratic seats in congress is going to change the fundamental
laws of economy - higher taxes will still result in higher
unemployment, and higher prices for consumers.

Mind you, I am all for going solar and wind; I've been saying that for
a long time now. In terms of policy, it's the one area where I
*greatly* prefer Obama to McCain. But even the most optimistic in the
energy industry are looking at fifteen to twenty years before we can
even be a *mostly* solar/wind economy. And that is assuming no
setbacks in terms of funding, materials, etc. And it's also assuming
improvements in the technology, and MAJOR improvements in efficiency
to reduce demand.

Don't get me wrong, if he does get elected and actually does try to do
it, I'll be pulling for him. I just think he's either exaggerating
and/or woefully naive about what he's promising to do. Even for a
politician.

Only if the majority of Americans are as gullible as you are - which
is unfortunately possible. Did you even notice that he's flip-flopped
on the war? He went from pulling us out in 16 months to staying as
long as it takes.

---It's almost impossible to count all McCains flip flops....not to
mention outright ignorance...Czechoslovakia anyone?

They're both woefully ignorant and ill-suited for the job; I just see
McCain doing less - and thus less actual damage - than Obama.

All of the major polls have them virtually tied within the margin for
error... Event more significantly, all of the major opinion polls
have Barak actually *losing* ground in the past week or so, which is
very unusual.

---Not really....as much as people loathe them, untruthful attack ads
work.

Not the point... it is in fact VERY unusual for a candidage to lose
points during their own convention. BOTH sides have put out attack
ads that have been less than honest; but McCain is gaining and Obama
is losing. The amount is small, but significant in terms of the
timing.

If McCain gets the usual bump that is expected at the repub
convention, he might actually pull ahead.

You mean a crisis worse than having a less-than-one-term senator who
is running on brazen naiveté and empty promises sitting in the Oval
Office?

----McCain's picked a one term woman governor for VP. Not a whole lot of
experience there. McCain's in God's waiting room as it is....

I agree completely. You know, it's ironic... McCain is running on
experience, and he picks the least experienced VP imaginable. Obama
is running on the idea of fresh and new, and he picks a VP who's been
in DC longer than McCain.

But after listening to him speak for past few months, I realize that
the man is mostly hype. He is terribly naive, extremely arrogant, and
he lacks anything resembling real conviction.

---It's hard to be a politician and not have an ego....

True, but he's been taking it to a new level as of late. The trip to
Europe was the beginning - and a large part of his dropping poll
numbers. I know Obama supporters who are actually starting to get a
little tired of the whole messiah image.

One thing is for certain, if Obama does get elected and does not
deliver in some huge way, he might be the best thing to happen to
conservatism in years. A lot of liberals have had something of a
wakeup call after the dems in congress failed to deliver on... well,
frankly anything since taking over control.
