I *DO* have a friend who hands his advanced students dull table
knives (you know, the serrated ones that cretins such as I spread
butter with). He claims that it *dramatically* changes their game. They
know that
if they get hit with one it'll bruise, tear up their skin, maybe
break or crack small finger bones, and a thrust *could* potentially
penetrate the skin (even if barely).

Apparently, he claims, that the students get real *REAL* respectful
of that knife in the other guy's hand.

Where I did JJJ we used dull bowie knives for knife work. Of course
the attackers weren't going flat out but I copped a few stabs that
hurt like hell on occasion.

I find it very strange that you don't go all out when training with real
knives. GDS claims that he does. He's obviously a true BJJer, whereas you,
hmm... I'm not so sure.
