Well, as long as we're all being cordial here, sure.
I'm going to stand by that based on the explanation I have given to
Peter in this thread.
If you have another example or anything to add thats great. If you
have any questions I'll do my best to answer them.
All right.. I was shown the arm bit by my mother who, then, was a
practicing nurse, when I was about 10 or so. An example that would have
drawn me in a lot more would be a brief explanation of the 'air moving
through your hand' feeling you get when doing basic ki exercises. (very,
*VERY* brief intro to TJJ.. only 6 or so months.. currently looking as
this is a new city :P) I mean, the whole 'moving through water' bit
seems inaccurate (at least to me) a description as it's more like moving
your hand through a strong mag field.. pushing one side, pulling another
(again, kinda-sorta).
Maybe you're feeling the stretch of what they call 'the s...' oops.
Sorry. Gotta watch the doling out of secrets. Heh heh. Wouldn't want
the ninjas coming to get me. Anyways, let's just say you might be
feeling the stretch in your muscles and tendons when you relax and
drop your arms (i.e. extend your arms), for instance. Just
speculating. It certainly does feel like that. At least until you
stretch em out and get used to it. Then it just feels
'comfortable'. :-)
I'm not dismissing your viewpoint.. I'm critiquing your explanation as
'not very understandable'. there's a difference.
Okay but to explain it I'd have to get deep into the theory, as I did
with Peter in this thread. He dismissed it out of hand which was quite
funny, but you can find the explanation there.
One of the problems I see with entertaining such a discussion is that
you don't have any stake in it. You don't train it so you have no real
interest to discussing it;
Not quite.. I don't train it *because* I don't have a basis in it. I
have all sorts of interests in it as it's been a curiosity for decades now.
Would you like some solid information in private? Not even from me but
from a lot of different people who DO have a basis in it? Maybe even
using english terminology which is a hell of a lot easier to
understand than my yi/qi/li babbling?
Oh, I'd have tons of questions, but essentially, you're right.. without
my being able to find a teacher out here, this would be academic and
that would be a shame.
But there is something you can do while you are looking for a teacher.
If you agree, I can try and introduce you to some people out there who
might have a viewpoint on the subject you are interested in, and can
try at home.
I view that as a problem. I'd love to swear lifelong loyalty to a
master.
I don't know about you, but I've had some *really* bad teachers (not "I
didn't understand what they were trying to show me" so much as "and the
he got his senior student to teach the class while he hit on one of the
females.." kinda thing)
Took me 10 years to find a teacher after the first one. And it took me
7 years to find the first one. God I hate that. It's better for me to
go back to one of my old instructors than to try and find someone new
even now.
