Re: Why I am (not) leaving Rec.Martial-Arts

Lol - Well, I guess quoting Lovecraft is par for the course. Good one.

Simply put, I have faith that the trolls, mainly Mark Goldberg and
Mike K. cannot continue in their vaccum forever. One day they must
wake up.

Uh, Ollie - you're one of the trolls bud. Doesn't the fact that there
is a trolling scale named after you tell you something?

Oh please - there's also a Shuurai index - what does that tell you?

I mean, consider the source. The guy who made that scale up said it
was okay to tell lies. Wow, huh? That's the kind of credibility you're
in with these days?

How do you reason with someone who is intentionally lying to you for
fun? It certainly *doesn't* reflect on me, now does it?

Simply put, I can't leave because i'm one of the only tai chi guys who
is willing to talk shop. I have a niche and I'm sticking to it.

So talk shop.

What do you want to know?

Well, we both know you don't want to know anything. So I don't see the
point in discussing it with you :) But if you change your mind, I'm
right here. I would have rather discussed things with someone who was
"into" it, you know. I'm not trying to teach anyone over the internet
you know. At least not right now :)

Simply put, because I can learn stuff here I can't learn anywhere
else.

For example?

Tons of stuff. Sentiment. Opinions. Ideas. Just general stuff. In
general.

Simply put, because something posted here every day makes me laugh out
loud.

Yeah, there is definately that.

I know!! lol

And I have TONS of fun joking around with you guys. To be honest it
wouldn't be so funny if you guys (you included) didn't take yourselves
so seriously. For example get a load of this:

That's the problem with hubris. It works for a while... and as soon as
you think you're invincible, you fall. As soon as you think you're not
going to make a mistake, thats when you do. So when I say I have a
100% accuraccy (sic) rating, that's past performance and I'm aware of that.
I'm actually quite interested in when exactly I *will* make a mistake.
That's just hilarious...really.

This is classic ***, Shuurai. You couldn't PAY to read stuff like
this. And it's all here - free!

There are many reasons, however, why I (and you) *should* leave:

- All the on-topic longtime posters have left or drastically reduced
their posting

Who are all these longtime posters? I've been here for years; I still
see a lot of the same people. It's a bit of an exaggeration to say
that "all" of the longtime posters have left. This has ALWAYS been a
fairly off-topic newsgroup.

Discussions which could have taken place here no longer do; there are
now other forums for those purposes.

- This is because they now post on private boards like aikiweb, empty
flower, qijin, chenwired, etc.

Mostly just folks who couldn't handle unmoderated debate.

It's unproductive.

- It is now considered off topic (according to Mark Goldberg) to
discuss martial arts here.

In the past few weeks you've started threads about economics,
politics, China, why RMA is dying, some stupid-ass "apprentice"
thread, and about a million other completely non-martial-arts topics.

Hey - now you're *complaining*?

It's a bit hypocritical of you to point at Mark (or anyone else) and
bitch about them posting off topic. If it really bothers you, well,
here's an idea: Post something on-topic.

No no no, I'm not saying it's wrong to post politics threads for
example. But if you claim (as Goldberg once did) that this wasn't the
forum for discussion (tai chi/internal MA) that's something completely
different.

- The newsgroup has become filled with antisocial liars. Some may be
pathological and even violently so.

Wow - talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

Are you saying I am a violently pathological liar? Why thank you,
Shuurai! And here I was trying to keep names out of it <g>

- Discussion now requires a scientific rigor not seen in Ph.D. work,
while accusers avoid such rigor themselves.

I'd like to see some evidence to support that.

Oh pleaz - you were there Shuurai, in the scientific tai chi sub
threads. You know all about it.

Simply put, there is no redeeming value to be had here.

Except for the stuff you can't learn anyplace else, and the laughing
out loud part...

But that value does not "redeem".

None whatsoever. This isn't rec.martial-arts anymore, it's
rec.goldberg's-war.diary or rec.hal.hunting or alt.peter.tolstoy-
syndrome or alt.travs-always-right.com or whatever. It's pathetic. And
yet I believe that we can actually beat the entropy that has stolen
this newsgroup if we only can all work together.

The newsgroup has been like this for at least the past six years.
Stop being so damn melodramatic. Every year or so we get some poor
sap lamenting that we're too off-topic and that the newsgroup is on
the verge of dying; it ain't happened yet.

Actually it has. The facts are quite simple. We've been experiencing a
~10-15% annual decrease in activity for the past 10 years. I'm
wondering if this has anything to do with peak oil.

Again, if you want more on topic threads, start posting on topic
threads.

I have very little I want to say anymore. Most of my learning is
focused around researching financial ratios and how to value companies
with them. I've discovered some pretty cool stuff. Stuff which may or
may not be common knowledge since it's so simple, but it seems no one
really talks about it/uses it. Stuff I haven't seen mentioned in any
textbook save one.

After all, Herbert Stein's Law states, "That which cannot go on
forever won't".

Yeah, you already said that.

I was trying to be melodramatic.
