.....This... in a world of competition, where there are standards to judge
'combat',
Not in the least-
didn't Gonzaga get hit with an 'illegal' head-butt? Haven't you seen fights
stopped for a groin-hit? or seen competitors chided for 'illegal' elbows,
knees/kicks, 'back of head' punches?
.....where instead, the implications where that you were introducing
devastating control of 'opponents' with those videos.
And the old man's skills were summarily dismissed as fraud- as if the whole
Chinese culture were looking to cheat someone, for centuries at a time..
The old guy had 85 years of dedicated practice under the best instruction in
the world- and youse guys figure it was all in aid of a fraud?
And, none of ya actually has experience with him or anyone near his
standard?
I had a guy, with only 55 or 60 years of practice at the time, knock me down
with an 'electrical' charge; twice; in front of 75 witnesses, including
Danny Inosanto- who also studied under him for 20 years and more.
Are youse telling me that I participated in a fraud- that I was just faking
it; a willing accomplice to forward a confidence game?
How about all the witnesses? Credulous boobs? Willing conspirators?
How about Inosanto? Naive newbie? Liar? Mass hallucination?
Weather balloons/sunspots?
No... the problem was 'Ownage' and 'mindbending' all which were
misdirections ......
They *were* 'owned'; it *was* 'mindbending'.
So much so that the only refutation were plaints of 'fraud'.
Reports of similar skills are refuted as 'participation in
fraud'/hallucination, and instruction in 'physics'-
And that I can accept... but then, don't poke at the competitive fighters
or their styles who actually do train to compete.
Don't poke fun at the actual fighters or their styles who actually do train
to fight.
I fought professionally for decades- anybody who stood up, any way they came
at it. I've been shot, stabbed, cut, clubbed, broken bones- and none of it
happened with a guy in my weight class, wearing Speedos, with a
referee......
Sport fighting is what it is- and I like to watch it, but don't confuse what
they do with training to actually fight.
They don't have to be fighting skills or worthy of such, to be
attainments. That too, I'm more than happy to see from neijists...
So far, any video of a demonstration has been met with accusations of
everything from fraud to mass hysteria.
......which is what taichi did for itself this 20th century. It
intellectualized the whole thing, until faux arts and faux abilities.
Guilty as charged-
supposedly, that whole bullshit attitude came in the 1920's and is generally
taken to be the influence of the 'Beijing Intellectuals'- the
nobility/wealthy that hired instructors from available systems. That was the
beginning of the connection to Taoism and the whole idea of forcing the
study into compliance with noble ideals and abstract concepts of balance and
so on.
There is no doubt that there are healthful benefits from athletic practice,
and one hopes for proper moral instruction along the way, but that intent
never trickled up to the Chen practitioners.
And I remember the faces of people who studied for a decade and two and
who had nothing and who thought it would 'arrive'. And they were innocent
and not inclined to speak and make any claims prior to that 'awakening'
but those who make claims to the 'fighters' and those who compete to
assess skill levels in terms of fighting, and who have to endure injury
and healing deserve better than to be treated like idiots to claims that
are not to be assessed by an open public, and or in a competitive
environs.
Two different beasties there, buddy.
I did tie chee under the system of Marshal Ho- one of the major proponents
of the idea that the combative applications would manifest spontaneously if
proper practice was done diligently.
And it may be true- but it's not coming with one practice of the form per
day, or even two.
And it's not coming just from practice of the solo form, even in a group
setting to share the good energy- there's a lot more to good
instruction/practice than that.
And nothing to do with Ollie's supposed faults/history/character and
personality disorders/effrontery to aircraft-carrier lovers everywhere.
