Massive news, but not necessarily good news.
Fedor is not with Pride anymore, apparently he has signed Bodogfight
contract for several fights.
Other good Pride fighters, like Big Nog or Hunt, might never fight
again for Pride/UFC because he could probably not get licensed.
They'll probably go to K1 where they will have to fight one freakshow
after another (Royce vs Morton, anyone?)
UFC might want to unify the rules, which is a good thing for the sport
but a bad thing because a lot of people prefer Pride's kicks and knees
to a grounded opponent over the UFC's elbows (and the cuts that they
cause).
Maybe they'll want to use a cage for all their fights. For me the cage
has a certain inhumane quality, I strongly prefer an adapted ring such
as Pride is using. A ring also improves the image of the sport (looks
better to the untrained eye than "cage fighting").
The production quality of Pride events is, imo, above that of UFC
events. The endless Xience commercials and name-dropping of all other
sponsors are probably acceptable to the US public, but I don't want to
have to endure them when watching Pride events in the future. If I
watch Pride events I enjoy the whole show, if I watch UFC events I
FFWD everything in between the fights.
And Chuck vs Wanderlei would not interest me that much, lets see Chuck
vs Shogun, who is superior to Wanderlei in every aspect of the game.
