Well, that's kinda what we're worried about.

After the massacre at Ecole Polytechnique 17 years ago, the gov't
brought in the long-gun registry, which has done squat-diddly to
prevent gun crime. In the emotional aftermath of this shooting, the
current government will probably have to backtrack (or at least
backburner) their plan to abolish the registry.

And yes, the shooter's three guns were all acquired legally, and were
properly registered.
