Well, no, they were never our friends. They were just someone who
happened to be fighting the same folk we were for a time.

Case in point: during WWII, a B29 made a forced landing in the Soviet
Union. A "friend" would have simply repatriated the crew and helped us
recover the plane. Instead they imprisoned the crew and when fe finally got
crew and plane back, the plane was in pieces. Strangely enough the next
bomber out of the Tupolev works strongly resembled the B29 (and began a
series that culminated in the Tu95 "Bear" of Cold War days).

Likewise, OBL was never our friend--just someone who was opposed to
someone we were opposed to at the time.

False. If I were to help you out today that doesn't make me
responsible for every evil thing you do for the rest of your life.

Absolutely. And "working with" what is, at one time, a lower-level
threat in the hopes of forstalling a bigger threat does not make you
responsible if the lower level threat decides to turn against you later.

Mark Twain once said that if you take in a stray dog and feed it and
care for it, it will not bite you. This, in Twain's opinion, was the major
difference between a dog and a man.



The stray dog you have fed will bite you if you keep kicking it. Didn't
you send cruise missiles into Afghanistan to take out OBL and ended up
killing his wife and kids?

I didn't make it up. It was on TV news and newspaper when it happened.

Not that I recall.

Why would they lie? He has many wives and so many kids. They bombed the
compound he was supposed to be in. It is not surprising some of his
family members were there.
