You know, it's not like I do bad stuff, or even have much cause these

there were certain...ways to go about things; one can spend a lot of
time thinking about how best to accouter oneself for the nightly
excursion, and one generally doesn't know about slimline holsters, CC
fanny packs, quick-release doo-dads, etc.

In fact, even today, if someone showed up in my lush, well-appointed
chambers, tossed me a pistol and said, "saddle up, son- time to get up
and get down", i would, in all likelyhood, recall my ancieint regime
and put it A) in my pants behind the buckle B) in my pants at the small
of the back or C) in my coat pocket, barrel forward.

given the right pair of pants, i might even put it in my hip pocket-
they make these widemouth, lowslung pockets now that you can
practically park in.

I've tried all of these in the past. The pockets don't "carry well" imo.
Slinging them in the belt (front or back) tends to shift when you're
walking or sit/stand-up. As far as unholstered goes jacket pockets and
breast-pockets of jackets & suits seems to work best (though it tends to
drag at the shoulder and hang odd if you lean forward). I used to slip a
small Mak. into the breast-pocket or into the outside flap-cover pocket of
my leather "bomber" style jacket. Worked pretty well. Had to clean the
piece more often though.

aside from the obvious danger of shooting yourself in the ***, these
all seem like superb choices for strolling around with handgun-easy to
get to, nobody can see it with a loose shirt on, you can throw it away
without a trace- what are the drawbacks? I mean, I ain't going jogging
or stocking shelves- i'm walking around with a pistol for a reason.

Even strolling around can make the piece shift uncomfortably or into a
poor draw position (or down your pants if your unlucky). And it chafes.

so
why do i need a few hundred bucks worth of leather to go somewhere with
a gun, especially since even an empty rig wil get me in a boat load of
trouble?

An empty rig? If you've tossed the piece might as well toss the leather
as well. Easy to do with a paddle.

what do the hot shots of RMA think on't?

I don't know what they think, but that's what I think. :-)
