More irrelevancies from Hal. Figures.
But note, the article he cites doesn't give any statistics on deaths from
cell phone

Get the next to last paragraph: 42,000 people killed by EACH YEAR by
drunk drivers.
That's FOURTEEN TIMES the number killed in 9/11 EACH YEAR.
That turns out not to be the case. If Hal had actually _read_ the
article that he cut and pasted, he would see that 42,000 was the total
number killed in all auto accidents. Of those, in 40% alcohol was involved.
Some further percentage were self-inflicted (Darwin Awards as far as I'm
concerned), also "alcohol was involved" is not the same thing as "caused by
alcohol" but let's leave the whole 40%. That means, alcohol was involved in
16,800 deaths. Unless it is Hal's contention that only 1200 people were
killed in 9/11, then Hal needs to _get his facts straight_ before he can
even begin arguing the issue.
But note also that murders in 2004 numbered fewer than those alcohol related
traffic deaths (16,137 murders to be exact, per FBI statistics) so I guess
that any effort spent on tracking down murderers should instead be turned to
dealing with drunk drivers. (But then, apparently, Hal thinks is less bad
than political dissent since he thinks I should be murdered for disagreeing
with him on matters of politics)
Yet you
don't see the Republicans doing anything to stop the booze. Of course
not. Big, big money in selling booze.
I guess Hal didn't notice the Republican Controlled Indiana House
decreasing the BAP for DWI and increasing enforcement of drunk driving laws.
And I haven't heard Republican governor Mitch Daniels arguing for its
increase.
Hal, as usual, is a liar.
Right wingers only care when someone dies if it gives them an excuse
to start another war.
Including that arch-right-winger, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Thing
about it. Five point Six Times (the accurate number) the number killed in
Pearl Harbor EACH YEAR.
But of course, by now, we all know the invasion of Iraq has absolutely
nothing to do with 9/11, right?
Straw man. One does not need to be involved in 9/11 to be a supporter
of terrorism, just like one doesn't have to be a member of the Mafia (which
I presume Hal isn't) to be a supporter of murder (which hal has confessed to
being).

Cellphone talkers as bad as drunk drivers: study By Maggie Fox, Health
and Science Correspondent
Thu Jun 29, 8:06 PM ET
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - People who talk on cellphones while driving,
even using "hands-free" devices, are as impaired as drunk drivers,
researchers said on Thursday.
"If legislators really want to address driver distraction, then they
should consider outlawing cell phone use while driving," said Frank
Drews, an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Utah
who worked on the study.
The researchers used a driving simulation device for their study,
published in the summer 2006 issue of Human Factors: The Journal of
the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society.
They studied 40 volunteers who used a driving simulator four times --
while undistracted, using a handheld cell phone, using a hands-free
cell phone and while intoxicated to a 0.08 percent blood-alcohol level
-- the average legal level of impairment in the United States -- after
drinking vodka and orange juice.
Three study participants rear-ended the simulated car in front of
them. All were talking on cellphones and none was drunk, the
researchers said.
Motorists who talked on either handheld or hands-free cell phones
drove slightly more slowly, were 9 percent slower to hit the brakes,
and varied their speed more than undistracted drivers.
Drivers with an 0.08 percent blood-alcohol level drove a bit more
slowly than both undistracted drivers and telephone users, yet more
aggressively.
"Driving while talking on a cell phone is as bad as or maybe worse
than driving drunk," said Drews, who said alcohol was involved in 40
percent of the 42,000 annual U.S. traffic fatalities.
Just like many people who have been drinking, the cellphone users did
not believe themselves to be affected, the researchers found.
